Canada’s main stock index fell slightly for a second straight day while the Nasdaq dropped from Monday’s record high on a disappointing result from Google parent company Alphabet.

The S&P/TSX composite index closed down 19.64 points at 16,580.73.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 38.52 points at 26,592.91. The S&P 500 index was up 2.80 points at 2,945.83, while the Nasdaq composite was down 54.09 points at 8,107.77.

The Canadian dollar traded at an average of US74.50¢ compared with an average of US74.32¢ on Monday.

The June crude contract was up 41¢ at US$63.91 per barrel and the June natural gas contract was down 1.8¢ at US$2.58 per mmBTU.

The June gold contract was up US$4.20 at US$1,285.70 an ounce and the July copper contract was up 0.7¢ at US$2.90 a pound.
