The Conference Board of Canada has selected Susan Black as its new president and CEO effective May 1, the Ottawa-based not-for-profit research organization announced on Thursday.
She is a seasoned business executive who enables organizations to outperform by implementing best-in-class practices. Dr. Black has held numerous executive positions including chief human resources officer with Intact Financial Corp., and senior vice president, people with Holt, Renfrew & Co., Ltd. She also founded and served as president of Catalyst Canada, a research and advisory non-profit organization that champions opportunities for women in business.
Black has served on the boards of York University, the Metro Toronto Housing Authority, and North York General Hospital. She currently sits on the board of Gore Mutual Insurance Co., a property and casualty insurance company.
Black will become the research organization’s seventh president and CEO. She succeeds Daniel Muzyka, who will retire at the end of April after six years as president and CEO.
Black is a graduate of Yale University (BA) and has an MBA from Harvard. She obtained a Ph.D. in organizational studies from York University in Toronto.
