Toronto-based Bank of Montreal (BMO) has announced that Brett Pitts has been appointed to the newly created position of chief digital officer, effective Nov. 30.

Pitts will steer the bank’s digital portfolio and manage North American digital experiences and channels in the new position, the bank says in a news release.

BMO hopes Pitts will further the firm’s digital agenda by developing positive customer experiences and digital adoption for self-service transactions.

“Brett is known for his deep industry expertise and for delivering innovative digital banking solutions,” says Cameron Fowler, president of North American personal and business banking at BMO, in a statement. “I am excited to have Brett join BMO and look forward to partnering with him to redefine our banking experiences and leverage the transformative power of digital across the bank.”

Pitts joins BMO after 17 years with San Francisco-based Wells Fargo & Co., at which he held several senior roles within the firm’s digital channels group. Most recent, he was executive vice president and group head of digital in charge of all aspects of that bank’s digital offerings.
