Sydney, Australia-based Macquarie Group has launched a new Canadian futures business as part of its North American futures franchise. The Montreal-based entity goes by the name of Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd. and will be led by Stephane Rozier. Rozier will lead a team of senior sales professionals with expertise in listed derivatives marketing, business development, sales and compliance. Macquarie Group is an international provider of banking, financial, advisory, investment and fund-management services with offices in 28 countries.
CI acquisition
CI Financial Corp. has entered into an agreement to purchase a minority interest in Lawrence Park Capital Partners Ltd. Both companies are based in Toronto. Lawrence Park is an alternative asset-management firm with a focus on fixed-income and credit strategies. As part of the deal, CI will also invest in Lawrence Park Credit Strategies Fund, which was launched in March 2012 and is available to accredited investors only. Lawrence Park CEO David Fry and chief investment officer Andrew Torres founded LP Capital Partners in 2011.
Service launches
Montreal-based Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corp. has recently launched its fixed-income central counterparty services and has started clearing repurchase agreements. The Investment Industry Association of Canada had mandated the development of the infrastructure for a central counterparty service for the Canadian fixed-income market in December 2009. Eligible securities will be added to the service over a 13-week period.
TMX in Australia
Sydney, Australia-based TMX Australia Pty. Ltd.’s takeover bid for Razor Risk Technologies Ltd. has been accepted. TMX Australia was approved to purchase 91.2% of Sydney-based Razor’s stock at a final price of A$0.0349 a share. TMX Australia plans to purchase Razor’s remaining shares by Feb. 28. Razor offers an integrated enterprise risk-management product designed to meet the needs of investment banks, exchanges, central counterparties and asset managers. TMX Australia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toronto-based TMX Group Inc.
