The 5 Great Adventures program, co-founded by Gillian Stovel Rivers, an advisor with Assante Financial Management Ltd., focuses on five categories or “adventures.” They are designed to help clients or “players” gain a stronger awareness about key areas in their lives.
Here’s what the categories look like:
> Wealth
This section tackles money and financial planning. For instance, is the player comfortable working with a financial advisor?
> Health
By assessing the player in areas such as stress, exercise and food, the coach can flag areas that need improvement.
> Fun
Here, clients look for ways to make sure they consistently pursue personal development and learning throughout their lives. For example, the sessions help players to identify what they do now for fun and what they could do in future, such as joining a sports league or taking a cooking class.
> Social life
This section tries to help players avoid withdrawing from others as they age. Someone who maintains relationships and remains engaged will have a better quality of life as their bodies slow down, says Stovel Rivers. Examples include having regular contact with others despite being confined to a long-term care facility.
> Life Capital
This category relates to legacy planning, such as philanthropy. It’s also about how players want to be remembered. For instance, the realization that a love of literature is hugely influential can lead to plans to donate time and money to groups committed to promoting literacy.
