John MacNaughton, who spent 31 years with brokerage firm Fry and Co. and its successors, died at his home in Toronto on Feb. 15. He was 67. A Bay Street stalwart, MacNaughton was a well-respected figure in the investment community. He served as president and CEO of Burns Fry Ltd. from 1989-94 and then as president of BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc. from 1994-99. After leaving BMO Nesbitt Burns, MacNaughton was the founding president and CEO of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board from 1999-2005. He later served as the chairman of the Business Development Bank of Canada. MacNaughton also was a key member of the Crawford Panel, which launched the idea of creating a single Canadian securities regulator. He had served on the boards of hospitals, churches and numerous institutes and foundations. MacNaughton was awarded the Order of Canada in 2004.
