Marcel Tremblay, president, chairman, and founder of Overlord Financial Inc. and the inventor of the income trust structure in Canada, died on Dec. 29, 2005.
In a news release, Overlord Financial stated: “Throughout his career Marcel was a financial visionary, a pioneer and a bold leader. He designed and created Canada’s first income trust, Enerplus Resources Fund, in 1986, pioneering a sector of the Canadian economy that now represents over 15% of the market capitalization of the Toronto Stock Exchange.”
The firm also noted that Tremblay was the first to list a Canadian trust on the New York Stock Exchange.
Tremblay was recognized by the Governor General of Canada as Entrepreneur of the Year for Western Canada in 1997.
