The Financial Planners Standards Council says 481 individuals passed the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Examination on Nov. 19, 200, for a pass rate of 52%. Of those writing the exam for the first time, 61% passed.

The list of successful candidates will be published in The Globe and Mail on Thursday, January 12.

“This is the 10 year of CFP certification in Canada. Once again, it is a great pleasure to acknowledge those who have voluntarily stepped up to prove themselves against a rigorous measure of professional competence, knowledge, judgment and analytical skills,” said Cary List, executive vp & COO, FPSC, in a release.

The six-hour CFP exam is administered in both official languages twice a year. The November examination was held in 55 centres across Canada.

Topics covered reflect the knowledge, skills and professional competence required in the current practice of financial planning as established by CFP professionals and academics from across the country.

Only candidates who have completed the educational requirements set by FPSC are eligible to write the CFP Examination. There are 29 programs directly accredited by FPSC that are delivered by 23 institutions (including colleges and universities).

The next scheduled CFP Examination is on Saturday, June 10. Registration closes on May 10, 2006. Examination information and applications are available at www.cfp-ca.org.
