Vali joins CIBC Asset Management

Toronto-based CIBC Asset Management Inc. (CAM) has expanded its investment team, with Scott Vali taking on the role of vice president, equities, and portfolio manager. Vali will be the lead portfolio manager for CIBC Precious Metals Fund, CIBC Canadian Resources Fund, CIBC Energy Fund and Renaissance Global Resource Fund. (CAM has assumed portfolio management responsibilities for those funds in early August.) Lawrence Smith, vice president, equity research (mining), will co-manage CIBC Precious Metals Fund; and Brian See, vice president; equity research (energy), will co-manage CIBC Energy Fund. “This significantly strengthens our resource-based offer to Canadian retail investors, as well as creates expanded opportunities for our institutional clients globally,”says a media release quoting Steve Geist, president and CEO of CAM. Vali has more than 13 years of portfolio-management experience, including a decade as lead manager of major resources-based investment mandates. Prior to joining CAM, Vali was vice president and portfolio manager with Toronto-based CI Investments Inc.
