Brokerage firm Edward Jones was honoured as Canada’s fourth best employer Thursday in a ceremony at the company’s Canadian headquarters in Mississauga.

Edward Jones received its fourth-place ranking from global human resources consulting firm Hewitt Associates, who reported its findings in the fourth annual study the 50 Best Companies to Work for in Canada.

Over 100 Edward Jones employees were on hand to celebrate the achievement, along with Gary Reamy, principal, Edward Jones, and Tom Emond, a Hewitt consultant.

“We are especially proud of this ranking because, in large part, it is the result of how associates view Edward Jones,” said Reamey. “We are many people working together, succeeding together, having fun together, and getting the job done.”

The 50 Best Companies report cites Edward Jones’ profit sharing and partnership opportunities for all employees as leading reasons that the company stands out as an employer.

It also highlights a lack of job descriptions (replaced by “responsibility statements”), competitive compensation and benefits, continuing education, and 24-hour employee support for everything from consumer advice to mental health.

“Edward Jones has figured out its business strategy and the kind of people needed to implement that strategy. It has done an absolutely awesome job of creating HR practices to motivate and support those people,” said Hewitt representative Tom Emond. “As a result, it has been extremely successful in selecting and keeping the right employees to help drive its business success.”
