Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s minority government laid out plans to cut the Goods and Services Tax in its first speech from the throne.
The main economic points were mostly taken from last winter’s Conservative election platform.
They include a one-point cut in the GST, to 6%, with a possible cut to 5% later.
The speech also referred to “Direct financial support” for child care, but made no mention of the dollar figure cited in the campaign, $1,200 a year for each child under six.
The throne speech did not mention the personal income-tax cuts implemented by the Liberals in January. The Conservatives have said they would reverse those cuts.
