RBC Capital Markets, the corporate and investment banking arm of RBC Financial Group, today announced the appointment of Matthew Strauss as a senior foreign exchange strategist.

Strauss joins RBC Capital Markets today from Ontario’s York Regional Municipality where he had been a fixed income manager for the past two years. Previously, Strauss worked as a currency and fixed income strategist for the ABSA Group in South Africa, where he was twice voted South Africa’s “Economist of the Year” by Reuters. Strauss holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Stellenbosch and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Strauss will be based in Toronto and report to Monica Fan, RBC Capital Markets’ global head of FX strategy. He will be primarily covering the Canadian dollar and select Latin American currencies.

“Matthew is a welcome addition to our global currency team,” said Fan. “His track record in analyzing the North American commodity and currency markets will enhance our foreign exchange research team’s ability to provide our clients with valuable insights into the markets and trading strategies globally.”

The hiring of Strauss follows RBC Capital Markets’ recent appointment of Sue Trinh as a senior foreign exchange strategist in Asia.
