Advocis announced the appointment of Roger McMillan as its new chairman of the board of directors as well as confirming its national board at its annual general meeting on Friday in Victoria.

The association’s members also passed resolutions clarifying Advocis’s firm resolve on the issue of banks and insurance and the association’s regulatory strategy. As well, Advocis confirmed that next year’s national conference and annual general meeting will be held in conjunction with its Banff School.

Advocis also held elections for its chapter leaders and of 27 nominees, 10 were elected to represent the chapters − one of whom will be chosen among the group, by the group, to sit on the association’s board.

McMillan of Toronto-based McMillan Financial, who assumed the chairman position immediately, has been a member since 1972. He has also been a board member and has served on several national committees.

In addition to McMillan, the association’s national directors for the 2006-2007 term include: Kristan K. Birchard, Teresa Black Hughes, Paul Bourbonniere, Cynthia Bowden, Corrigan Collins, Michael Gau, Randolph McGlynn, Gary McLeod, Timothy Squire, Terry Zavitz and Terry Zive.

Meanwhile, the Charter Life Underwriters Institute, which also held its AGM on Friday, announced the appointment of Cynthia Bowden as chairwoman of its board of trustees. The CLU also elected its board of trustees at the event.

“It’s exciting to have the CLU and see its rebirth,” said Advocis president and CEO Steve Howard. “Our members are excited to see it functioning as a distinct entity.”

Joining Bowden on the CLU board of trustees for the 2006-2007 term are: Daniel Audet, Gerald Matte, Richard McKenster, Leonard Morgan, Paul Mulvihill, Dean Owen, Robert Rizzuto, Mimi Rogers, Malcolm Scarratt, Brett Simpson, Jennifer Tweddle and Peter Wouters.
