Moody’s Investors Service is beefing up its Canadian operations, with the hiring of a new resource industry analyst in its Toronto office.

Terry Marshall has joined Moody’s Canada as a vice president/senior analyst, assuming responsibility for a portfolio of Canadian and U.S. metals, mining, and forest products companies.

“Terry’s 25 years of experience in the capital markets, including 10 years in the metals, mining, and forestry sector, made him an ideal candidate,” said Mark Gray, managing director of Moody’s Investors Service’s Corporate Finance Group in New York, in a news release.

Moody’s Canada announced its intention last year to recruit credit analysts to cover key sectors of the national economy, including oil and gas, natural resources, financial services, and government finance.

This announcement marks Moody’s fifth major new hire in Canada in 2003. Four Toronto-based analytical staff members were added last year.

“We are pleased to initiate coverage of a variety of North American companies from Toronto,” said Andrew Kriegler, managing director of Moody’s Canada. “Metals, mining, and forest products companies are a vital element of the Canadian economy and Terry will be responsible for a portfolio of credits in this sector that includes a critical mass of domestic firms.”

Marshall joins Moody’s after 16 years with Citibank Canada. He was most recently a managing director and head of the metals and mining team within the corporate finance group, where he completed a broad range of domestic and international transactions. He holds a bachelor of economics degree from York University.
