Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada, has updated the Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) program.

Advocis reports it recently engaged industry-leading experts on living benefits to coordinate the revision and review of the content of the Disability and Group Benefits course, one of two mandatory courses required to obtain the RHU designation. Industry leaders in the fields of underwriting, marketing and claims worked to ensure that the course content continues to reflect the realities of the current Canadian marketplace.

“In fact, this is something we do on a regular basis,” says Taylor Train, chief operating officer of Advocis. “It is because of the critical importance that financial advisors and planners have the most up-to-date information for their clients. With Canadians living longer and more needing this kind of financial protection, there will be more clients looking for this kind of advice,” says Train.

The RHU is the only living-benefits designation available to financial advisors and planners in Canada. With the successful completion of the RHU program, advisors and planners are equipped with the expertise to provide strategic living benefits advice in all areas including, income replacement, group benefits, critical illness protection, health insurance and long-term care issues.
