A news report that state regulators in the United States are investigating accounting practices regarding investments made by Manulife’s U.S. division is completely erroneous, Manulife Financial Corp. said Thursday.

The company said it has not been advised by any regulators — and has no reason to believe — that any of its accounting practices are being investigated.

“The report of an investigation of our accounting practices is false,” stated Peter Rubenovitch, Manulife’s CFO, in a release. “We are extremely disappointed that these false allegations made by anonymous sources made it to print.”
