The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has elected commissioner Michael Dunn to serve as acting chairman until U.S. President Obama’s nominee to lead the agency, Gary Gensler, has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Dunn succeeds Walter Lukken who has served as acting chairman since June 27, 2007, but resigned as acting chairman of the CFTC effective Tuesday. Lukken will continue to serve as a commissioner.

The new acting chairman said that the CFTC “will continue to protect market participants and ensure the viability and integrity of U.S. futures markets.”
