The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority has established a search committee to find a replacement for CEO Mary Schapiro, whose nomination to become chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission was approved by the U.S. Senate on Thursday.

In the meantime, Stephen Luparello, FINRA’s senior executive vice president for regulatory operations, will serve as interim CEO.

FINRA’s board also accepted the resignations of two board members representing large securities firms, one of whom left the board when he resigned from Merrill Lynch, and the other represented he now-defunct Lehman Brothers. The board is expected to nominate two new candidates to represent large firms in February.
