The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) is encouraging investors to check their financial advisor’s registration on Mar. 18.

The CSA provides its “national registration search” tool through the website www.aretheyregistered.ca to help make this task easier for investors on Check Registration Day. The online search mechanism allows the public to check whether a firm or individual is registered to sell securities or offer investment advice in a particular province or territory. Investors can also contact their local securities regulatory authority to verify registration for a financial services firm or advisor.

“Investors should have confidence in the individual or firm they choose to handle their investments and a registration check is a critical initial step in building that confidence,” says Bill Rice, chair of the CSA and chair and CEO of the Alberta Securities Commission.

The CSA is reminding investors that Canadian securities regulators will only register firms and individuals that meet specific qualifications and standards.
