Members of Canada’s hedge fund industry gathered in Toronto on Thursday to raise money towards the prevention and treatment of child abuse.
More than 200 professionals and supporters attended the eighth annual “Open Your Hearts to the Children Gala” hosted by Hedge Funds Care Canada at Ultra Supper Club. The charity event raised more than $250,000 – the highest amount ever raised by the event, bringing the total amount it has raised to date to more than $1.4 million.
“We are delighted that proceeds from the event will go to the prevention and treatment of child abuse,” said Corey Goldman, president and director of Hedge Funds Care Canada and director of marketing and communications and Gluskin Sheff and Associates Inc. in Toronto. “The dollars raised this year will have a significant impact in fighting the scourge of child abuse in this country.”
All of the funds raised through the Hedge Funds Care Gala are distributed through grants to community-based organizations devoted to preventing child abuse and treating children who have been victims of abuse.
Alana MacEwen, chairwoman of the event, acknowledged the hedge fund community’s “overwhelming response to the gala and the cause it supports.”
She also expressed gratitude for the support of such sponsors as Sprott Asset Management, Arrow Capital Management, CIBC World Markets, Citco Fund Services and MAN Investments, among others.
Hedge Funds Care Canada was established in 2004 as a way for the Canadian hedge fund industry to give back to the community. It’s part of a global alliance that began 13 years ago in New York and has grown into an international nonprofit organization.
