Quebec is extending its consultation on aggressive tax planning due to popular demand, Minister of Finance Monique Jérôme-Forget announced Tuesday.
Jérôme-Forget said she is extending the deadline for submitting a brief as part of the consultation by one month, pushing the deadline back to April 1.
The discussion paper released by the government examines the issue of aggressive tax planning and the legislative tools currently in force to fight against it. It also describes the actions the government is considering to provide Quebec’s tax authorities with the means needed to more effectively curb this practice and discourage the emergence of a new tax practice business model.
When the consultation was launched, Jérôme-Forget pointed out that this type of tax planning raises serious issues of fairness among taxpayers. She observed that the revenue lost to the government because of aggressive tax planning must sooner or later be collected from other taxpayers.
