Premier Rachel Notley, in her first question period as premier of Alberta, has promised that her NDP government will not bring in a sales tax.
Notley faced a number of financial questions in the first full day of debate in the legislature.
Under questioning from the Opposition Wildrose, she reiterated that her government won’t bring in a full budget until the fall.
The plan is to pass an interim bill in the current sitting to keep money flowing until that budget is ready.
The former Progressive Conservative government introduced a budget for the 2015-16 year, but it did not pass before the election.
Notley wouldn’t say how much money her proposed increases to corporate taxes and income taxes on the wealthy will bring in.
