Toronto-based Sprott Asset Management LP said Monday that John Wilson has assumed lead portfolio management responsibilities for Sprott Opportunities Hedge LP and Sprott Opportunities RSP Fund, effective immediately.
“John is an experienced manager of long-short strategies with a unique track record of delivering strong risk-adjusted returns to investors,” said Peter Grosskopf, CEO of Sprott Inc. “We welcome his addition to the Sprott Opportunities team.”
Wilson recently joined Sprott in the position of senior portfolio manager. He will continue to manage the funds as opportunistic, “go anywhere” long-short strategies. His goal will be to deliver strong risk-adjusted returns by investing in undervalued stocks, shorting overvalued stocks with near term catalysts for revaluation, and opportunistically using options-based strategies to enhance income generation and to manage downside risk for investors. Wilson will also leverage the expertise of Sprott’s investment team and highly-regarded research professionals.
Wilson joined Sprott in January 2012 and has over 25 years of investment and business experience. Most recently, he was chief investment officer of Cumberland Private Wealth Management. Previously, he was the founder of DDX Capital Partners, an alternative investment manager. Prior to that, Wilson was managing director and a technology analyst at RBC Capital Markets; and previously, a director at UBS Canada. He is an MBA graduate of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
