Online tool allows companies to calculate potential ROI in holding an on-site vaccination campaign

Medisys Health Group is launching its 2009-2010 flu vaccination campaign, as well as its new scheduling software for corporate clients and a new flu-vaccination ROI calculator, the occupational health, wellness and employee vaccination services company said Thursday.

With the flu season fast approaching on the heels of the recent H1N1 pandemic, top health authorities around the world are raising concerns with regard to the severity and potential impact of the coming flu season.

“Vaccination is the single best way to protect against seasonal influenza,” says Dr. Dominique Tessier, president of the Canadian Society of Travel Medicine, and director of Medisys’ Travel Health Clinics. “The seasonal flu vaccine does not offer protection against the A H1N1 strain, but is very effective in providing protection against the seasonal flu.”

Montreal-based Medisys has developed an online booking tool that allows employees to schedule their own appointments, maximizing their productivity and minimizing HR’s involvement in the planning process. Medisys also provides companies with email communication templates to use in promoting the vaccination campaign in order to maximize participation.

A study by the University of Minnesota estimated that flu immunization in healthy working adults results in 43% fewer days of sick leave due to upper respiratory illness and 44% fewer visits to doctors’ offices for respiratory illness.

Medisys has also created a tool that allows companies to calculate their potential return on investment in holding an on-site influenza vaccination campaign.

“It is very easy to see the large financial impact that protecting your employees has on your bottom line,” stays Randy McCaig, director of employee wellness programs at Medisys. “A sick employee can represent thousands of lost dollars in the form of decreased productivity, replacement costs, and opportunity costs to mention a few.”
