Toronto-based Bank of Nova Scotia on Tuesday announced the appointment of Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Deschamps as strategic advisor, global digital banking to the president and CEO, effective Jan. 4.
In addition to working closely with Brian Porter, president and CEO, and leaders across the bank’s businesses, Deschamps will partner with technology co-heads Michael Zerbs and Kyle McNamara.
“Nacho is a talented and very experienced global banker. His leadership in navigating and leveraging digital banking trends, and his deep banking expertise in key international markets, will provide tremendous benefit to Scotiabank,” says Porter.
Deschamps will be tasked with refining a digital banking roadmap and prioritizing investments and resources to accelerate the bank’s digital transformation. He will have offices in New York and Toronto.
Deschamps is an international banking executive with 30 years of experience. Formerly chairman and CEO of BBVA Bancomer, Mexico’s largest bank, global head of retail banking at BBVA, and president of the Mexican Banking Association, Deschamps developed significant banking experience in a career that spans many international markets. In his most recent role, he developed extensive “FinTech” relationships and digital experience in the U.S. and other markets.
