Quebec’s financial services regulator, the Autorité des marches financiers, is accusing Zurich Insurance Co. of violating the province’s Automobile Insurance Act.

The AMF, which is bringing the case before the Court of Quebec (Criminal and Penal Division) in the judicial district of Montreal, says Zurich faces 34 counts of violating the act.

Zurich is accused of, “Failing as an authorized insurer to provide the Groupement des assureurs automobiles, upon request and in the form prescribed, the statistical data and information contemplated in section 177 of the Act concerning its automobile insurance experience for each month from March 2002 to December 2004.”

The allegations have not been proven, but the AMF says that if found guilty on all counts, Zurich is liable to a minimum fine of $23,800. However, the AMF says it will be seeking a fine of $222,000.
