Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) is looking for nominations for the 2008 Donald J. Johnston Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession of Financial Planning in Canada.
The award recognizes and celebrates the spirit, imagination, dedication and contribution of those who help move the professional practice of financial planning toward recognition as a bona fide profession.
The winner of the 2008 Award will be the third honoree since FPSC inaugurated the program in 2006. Past honorees are: Don Johnston, founder and now retired president of FPSC (and namesake of the award); and Alastair Rickard, the 2007 recipient and 2004 chairman of the board of FPSC. Rickard is currently government and industry relations associate vp at the Sun Life Assurance Co.
“There is such a rich and varied level of contribution from many individuals and organizations in Canada. There are so many people who are helping move the profession forward and ensuring the public is well-served,” says Cheryl Bauer Hyde, chair of FPSC’s Board.
Nominees will be evaluated by the 2008 Don Johnston Award Committee on criteria including:
- advancement of the status and standards of the profession;
- reflection/embodiment of the profession;
- industry visibility and knowledge; and
- impact of contribution.
All submissions made in writing and submitted to FPSC postmarked on or before December 21 will be considered. Nominees will be reviewed by the 2008 Award Committee. The committee will select the nominees for the consideration of the FPSC board of directors. The FPSC board of directors will make its final decision on the 2008 recipient at its spring meeting and will announce the winner in June 2008 at its annual board appreciation reception. The time and place of the reception have yet to be determined.
