Australia’s Macquarie Group said Wednesday that Sandy Edmonstone will join as an executive director and deputy head of global oil and gas for Macquarie Capital. He will be based in Calgary office of Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd.

Macquarie says the newly created role underscores the firm’s commitment to the energy sector and builds on its client coverage and expertise.

Prior to joining Macquarie, Edmonstone was head of global energy and a managing director at National Bank Financial, where he was actively involved with client coverage and new business origination, and oversaw the management and strategic direction of its Global Energy Group. From 2002 to 2008, he was a managing director at GMP Capital, where he worked on a wide range of mergers and acquisitions advisory, and equity and debt capital markets transactions in the energy sector.

Edmonstone brings substantial experience to Macquarie. He has been involved in a number of significant transactions in the oil and gas industry throughout his career. As deputy head of global oil and gas, he will work closely with Dan Cristall, head of global oil and gas, and the firm’s global energy team to provide experienced advice to key energy-sector clients and develop new business, both in Canada and globally.

“The energy sector remains a key area of focus for Macquarie. Sandy’s appointment brings an additional global dimension to our bench strength, which includes David Vetters, head of Canadian oil and gas, and a presence in major energy hubs around the world,” says Cristall.

Edmonstone is a CFA and holds a B.Comm degree from University of Saskatchewan. He has held the Brendan Wood “Top Gun” banker designation since 2007. He serves as a Board Trustee of the Calgary Health Trust.
