With Financial Planning Week just weeks away, Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) has confirmed a stellar line-up of speakers for the upcoming Financial Planning Vision 2020 Symposium in Toronto on November 20.
Vision 2020 looks to the year 2020 and envisions Canada as being a nation of people and organizations that values financial planning, shares and assumes responsibility to ensure the financial planning needs of Canadians are well served and has a viable financial planning profession that ensures broad access to competent, ethical financial planners for those who need professional advice.
In the symposium’s keynote address, Seth Mattison, Millennial Expert, from Bridgeworks, LLC), describes how each generation has its own attitudes about finances and financial planning, along with its own expectations of financial planners. Mattison will share insights that may confirm some of your assumptions, get you to rethink others and open your eyes to new possibilities by gaining a greater understanding of what makes each generation tick.
Other highlights of this year’s day-long symposium, themed “Enduring Challenges, Fresh Opportunities”, include:
> ParticipAction’s president, Kelly D. Murumets, in an interview-style discussion, with Patricia Lovett-Reid, discusses her organization’s experience encouraging Canadians to move more, eat better, and change behaviour for improved health and physical wellbeing.
> Gary Rabbior, president, Canadian Foundation for Economic Education, examines whether current education and financial literacy efforts truly helping Canadians develop skills, capabilities and new habits so they can handle their financial decisions and their lives with more confidence and competence.
> Dilip Soman, Professor of Behavioural Economics, University of Toronto, explains why far too few Canadians take action to make their financial well-being a priority, even when they know financial planning is important.
Other presentations will focus on working and connecting in a culturally diverse world, the value of financial planning and a global perspective from Karen Schaeffer, board chairperson from FPSB, the international membership body for the 24 organizations that confer the certified financial planner (CFP) designation.
The full schedule and registration information is available on the FPSC website.
