The Financial Services Commission of Ontario is introducing the second phase of its Internet Application System.

FSCO says that, effective July 15, insurance company staff will be able to sponsor new agents over the Internet, and prospective new agents will be able to apply for a licence online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Licences for qualified agents will be issued a few days later, after the completion of background checks.

Insurance company staff must complete the first step of sponsoring the agent by using the online pre-application process to provide five basic pieces of information about the prospective agent. The prospective agent will then be notified via e-mail that the process has begun, and will be provided with an electronic link to a secure area within FSCO’s Web site to complete the licensing process.

Insurers will also have access to a variety of online, on demand reports and improved lines of communication, including automated e-mail status reports indicating the status of all their online applications.
