The Bank of Canada is going to make the market wait an extra hour for interest rate announcements next year.
The BoC said Wedneday that, effective January 23, 2013, it will begin releasing scheduled policy rate announcements at 10:00 ET, including the rate decisions that will be published concurrently with its quarterly Monetary Policy Reports (MPRs).
Prior to this change, all policy rate announcements were made at 9:00 ET, and MPRs were published at 10:30 ET.
Previously, the BoC said that it would begin publishing its quarterly MPR simultaneously with its January, April, July, and October rate announcements, starting in January. The standard day for publication of all scheduled rate announcements and MPRs will be Wednesday.
“This new time takes into consideration the feedback gathered via consultation with market participants and other stakeholders,” it says. Also, the bank can make unscheduled rate announcements at any time in extraordinary circumstances.
