Finance Minister Jim Flaherty will present the federal budget in a speech on Feb. 26.

Flaherty made the announcement just after returning from a weekend meeting of G7 finance ministers and central bank governors.

With election talk in the air, the budget could push the opposition parties to bring down the government and trigger a general election this spring.

The government has been holding pre-budget consultations to gather ideas from the public. This consultation period ends Monday.

In October, the Conservative government announced business and personal tax cuts totalling $60-billion.

The Tories have said recently not to expect any major income tax cuts in the upcoming budget.
