Financial advisors who are pursuing the certified financial planner (CFP) designation should take note that the last day to register for the next opportunity to write the examinations involved in the process is Oct. 25, according to an announcement from the Toronto-based Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) on Friday.
The path to CFP certification includes taking the FPSC Level 1 examination in financial planning and the CFP examination. The next writing of the exams will take place on Nov. 25 in 40 cities across Canada.
Those who want to write the first test, the FPSC Level 1 examination, must have completed an FPSC-approved core curriculum program. In order to be eligible for the CFP examination, the second and final test, candidates must have obtained FPSC Level 1 certification in financial planning and have completed an FPSC-approved capstone course.
After completing these educational and examination requirements, as well as three years of qualifying financial planning work experience, candidates could apply for CFP certification.
There are currently approximately 17,000 CFP professionals and 1,700 FPSC Level 1 certificants in Canada.
Additional information about the exams and registration can be found on the FPSC’s website.
