An upcoming Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) roundtable on proposed improvements to the proxy voting process will examine both the short- and long-term prospects for reform, featuring speakers from the regulators, the governance world, and the financial industry.
The OSC on Tuesday announced the agenda and speaker lineup for its forthcoming roundtable on proposed reforms to proxy voting procedures that were published as part of a recent report from the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA).
The half-day meeting will feature two panel discussions. One panel will focus on implementing the CSA’s proposed new vote reconciliation protocols and assessing short-term progress. The proposed protocols aim to outline the roles and responsibilities of organizations that participate in the vote reconciliation process, and provide detailed guidance on operational processes for those firms.
A second panel will examine a longer-term strategy for improving the proxy voting infrastructure.
The roundtable, which is taking place on Nov. 18 at the OSC’s offices in Toronto, will be led by Monica Kowal, OSC vice chairwoman, Grant Vingoe, OSC vice chairman, Deborah Leckman, OSC commissioner.
The panels will feature representatives financial firms, governance firms and investor communications firms including: Bank of Nova Scotia; OMERSl Hansell LLP; Governance Professionals of Canada; Broadridge Financial Solutions; Shorecrest Group Ltd.; and the Securities Transfer Association of Canada.
