The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) said Wednesday it is looking to build a securities data repository to facilitate market surveillance.

The AMF published a request for information seeking potential suppliers of either components for a ‘market analysis platform’ (MAP), or the platform in its entirety.

The notice indicates that potential suppliers will have to complete confidentiality and security agreements in order to get full access to its requirements for the platform.

However, it does indicate that the proposed platform would be used to create a central data repository to hold a wide variety of securities market information; provide a toolset to populate and analyze the collected data; and, create specific functionality allowing the retrospective assessment of market activity to help detect and investigate cross-product and cross-venue trading anomalies, particularly to help detect possible illegal insider trading and market manipulation.

It also notes that the resulting platform may be used Canada-wide.
