Global financial services company Citigroup Inc. announced on Tuesday the appointment of John Hastings as country officer and as chairman and CEO of Citibank Canada.
As country officer, Hastings is the central representative for Citi in Canada and is responsible for ensuring strong, effective relationships between Citi and its key stakeholders. As chairman and CEO, he oversees the governance and continued growth of the company in Canada.
Hastings has been with Citi in Canada for more than 25 years in a number of increasingly senior roles. Most recently he was managing director and head of Citi’s institutional clients group in Canada, providing franchise oversight across all institutional customer segments and product groups.
The appointment reflects Citi’s decision to focus on global banking and its institutional client base in Canada.
“This new role provides a tremendous opportunity, particularly as it comes at such a pivotal moment in Citi’s evolution in Canada,” Hastings said. “With significant investments being made in our Global Banking, Global Transaction Services and Citi Private Bank businesses, I look forward to solidifying Citi’s reputation as Canada’s most global bank.”
Hastings holds a B.A. in Economics from Queen’s University and an MBA from the University of Toronto.
