Key options contracts saw record trading volumes yesterday, June 20, according to major derivatives market operators.
The CME Group reports that Treasury options and E-mini S&P 500 options hit daily trading volume records on its markets yesterday; and over-the-counter interest rate swaps recorded a high in notional value traded, too.
Over 1.7 million Treasury options were traded on the CME yesterday, topping the previous record of 1.3 million, it reports. Additionally, there was record volume in 10-Year U.S. Treasury note options, which surpassed 1 million contracts traded, beating the previous record of less than 900,000 contracts.
Volume records were also set in E-mini S&P 500 options on the CME, which saw over 800,000 contracts traded, well above the previous record, which was less than 600,000 contracts.
The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) also reported that trading volume in S&P 500 Index options established a new daily record, too, reaching almost 2.3 million contracts traded, well above the average daily volume of just less than 700,000 contracts so far this year.
The CME Group also reports that OTC interest rate swaps set a record for daily notional value traded yesterday too, reaching US$114 billion, trumping the previous record of $96 billion. And, it notes that open interest for these swaps has grown 28% in June.
