Bank of Nova Scotia (TSX:BNS) announced a couple of senior appointments to its marketing and online brokerage divisions on Thursday.

Effective immediately, Duncan Hannay has been appointed to the position of senior vice president, marketing for Canadian banking.

Reporting directly to Canadian banking group head Chris Hodgson, Hannay will lead the Canadian marketing team with overall responsibility for the development and execution of a strategic marketing plan which includes brand and marketing management, direct and digital marketing, and strategic partnerships.

Hannay was appointed as managing director and head of online brokerage in early 2009 and has been instrumental in the ongoing consolidation and growth of this important business line of Scotiabank’s wealth management platform, including the launch of the Scotia iTRADE brand.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, he was president of E*Trade Canada, which under his leadership became a formidable competitor in the Canadian marketplace. He has also held senior positions with E*Trade Financial in New York, including responsibility for marketing and strategy.

Bob Grant will fill the vacancy in the online brokerage division left by Hannay. Grant has been appointed to the position of managing director, head of online brokerage. This appointment is subject to the completion of regulatory filings and approvals.

Grant has over 20 years service with Scotiabank and has held progressively senior roles within global transaction banking, Canadian banking, and card products and marketing with business line responsibilities that included electronic business products, customer contact centres, and global electronic payments and remittance products, to name a few.

Grant was a significant player in the origination of Scotia online banking. Most recently, he held the position of senior vice president, global transaction banking sales and was responsible for profitable revenue growth of cash management, payments, trade finance and foreign exchange across Canada, the United States, Mexico and Europe.

Grant holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from York University, as well as an MBA from the Schulich School of Business and has served on several boards, including Chairman of Acxsys Corporation, and in a volunteer capacity with Big Brothers of Toronto.
