Nearly half of new Canadians surveyed recently said daily living expenses in this country are higher than anticipated.

The Environics survey found 41% of the respondents found that managing their finances has been more difficult than they expected before arriving in Canada in the past 10 years.

They survey found 30% of the respondents adjusted to life in Canada by living more modestly than before they arrived.

About one in five of the respondents said they have taken on extra jobs to make ends meet.

The survey was conducted in August by Environics Research group for Royal Bank (TSX:RY).

The research was based on 598 Chinese and South Asian immigrant residents in British Columbia and Ontario who have lived in Canada for 10 years or less.
