The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) announced on Monday that it will host a roundtable discussion on Sept. 18 focused on the results of the latest regulatory consultation on possibly banning embedded commissions.
The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) received dozens of submissions on a consultation paper that was published in January to examine the idea of banning these compensation arrangements and requiring dealers to enter into direct pay arrangements instead.
The comment period on the paper closed on June 9. Now, regulators will be engaging in further consultations in anticipation of a final policy decision in this area by the end of the year.
The session, which will be held at the OSC’s offices in Toronto, will feature panel discussions on the themes that emerged in the consultation. The OSC says that details on the agenda and participants in the session will be announced in the week of Aug. 14.
Other regulators will also announce plans for their own roundtables, the OSC notes.
