The merits of self-regulation as well as private sector solutions to retirement income adequacy are among the topics to be discussed at an upcoming symposium hosted by Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada.
This event will take place at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto on Monday, November 22.
“The fallout on financial advisors and planners from the global financial crisis is significant and will be long-lasting,” says Advocis president and CEO Greg Pollock. “It has opened the door to greater scrutiny and oversight of the financial services sector by regulators. We need to be prepared with a common collective voice on these issues.”
At the symposium, the impact of international regulatory development on the Canadian financial services sector will be discussed, as well as how advisors can continue to generate important value-added service for their clients — and be sure clients understand the value they’re getting.
Ontario’s Minister of Finance, Dwight Duncan, will be the keynote lunch speaker.
Susan Wolburgh Jenah, president and CEO, Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, Bill Rice, chair and CEO, Alberta Securities Commission, and Dean Connor, chief operating officer, Sun Life Financial, are some of the other speakers on the schedule.
