The Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada (MFDA) today announced that Frank Laferriere, David Losier and Vince Valenti have been appointed industry directors of the self-regulatory organization.

The MFDA held its annual general meeting on December 5. At that meeting, Laferriere, senior vice president & COO of Toronto’s Mandeville Wealth Services Inc., Losier, vice-president & CFO of Fédération des caisse populaire acadiennes ltée in New Brunswick, and Valenti, president of Independent Planning Group Inc. in Ottawa were approved as industry directors for two-year terms.

Additionally, the MFDA reports that the appointment of Deloitte LLP as its auditor was also approved, as were various rule amendments, including those dealing with relationship disclosure, and transaction fee disclosure.

Along with the three new directors, the MFDA board includes Sandy Grant; Dawn Russell, president & vice-chancellor of St. Thomas University in Fredericton, NB; consultant, Lea Hansen; Doug Thomson; Rod McLeod; and Janet Woodruff, as public directors. The other industry directors are: Rick Annaert, president & CEO of Manulife Securities Investment Services Inc.; Steven Donald, president Assante Wealth Management (Canada) Ltd.; and, Stephen Geist, president CIBC Asset Management Inc. & CIBC Securities Inc. MFDA president and CEO, Mark Gordon, also serves as an ex-officio member of the board.

The MFDA also scheduled its 2014 AGM on December 3 in Toronto.
