The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) has tapped Gilles Leclerc to head its securities division.

The AMF said today that Leclerc has been appointed as superintendent, securities markets. In that role, he is responsible for developing and enforcing securities and derivatives regulatory requirements in the Quebec financial markets, along with the supervision of market structures and self-regulatory organizations operating in Quebec.

Leclerc joined the AMF a year ago as senior director, corporate finance. He became interim superintendent in September. Prior to joining the AMF, he was a partner in the Montreal office of Fasken Martineau, where he specialized in securities law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate law.
