The International Organization of Securities Commissions’ (IOSCO) Growth and Emerging Markets (GEM) committee met in Sri Lanka this week for its annual meeting and conference, which focused on enhancing sustainable finance, and cyber resilience, among other issues.
“There was agreement among emerging market regulators to accelerate the development of sustainable finance, including the establishment of a Task Force on Sustainable Finance,” says Ranjit Ajit Singh, chairman of the GEM committee and vice chairman of the IOSCO board, in a statement.
The GEM committee also conducted a cybersecurity exercise designed to help strengthen regulators’ capabilities and preparedness for dealing with cyber threats. “Greater regulatory cooperation is critical in strengthening resilience and regulatory expertise in relation to cyber threats,” Singh adds.
Other topics discussed at the conference includw the issue of liquidity in emerging capital markets and the impact of fintech on capital markets, including the growth of cryptocurrencies and initial coin offerings.
