The Ontario Securities Commission’s (OSC) announced on Thursday that its upcoming roundtable discussions on the Canadian Securities Administrators’ (CSA) proposed reforms to client/advisor relationships, scheduled for Dec. 6, will feature two panels.
One of the sessions is focused on the proposed introduction of a best interests standard while the other is focused on examining the proposed package of targeted reforms to existing rules that regulators are considering. Specifically, they include know-your-client and know-your-product requirements as well as new restrictions on the business titles that advisors can use.
The OSC did not announce the speaker lineup for the event, noting that those details, along with a final agenda, will be revealed by Dec. 1. However, the OSC says, “The panels will reflect a diversity of views, so as to facilitate a balanced debate.”
The session will be held at the OSC’s offices in Toronto from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will also be webcast.
Various other provincial securities commissions that are members of the CSA are planning their own roundtable sessions to explore some of the issues raised in the CSA’s consultation paper setting out the proposed reforms, which was published earlier this year.
